This blog highlights some of the more original examples of eerie storytelling being created.
Fans of horror have to wade through a lot of derivative stuff, identical to thousands that have gone before, to find those rare occasional gems that really stand out. Being a horror fan is hard.
As a fan of good storytelling, of the classic eerie story or campfire-tale variety rather than more bloody horror, storytelling that tries at least something new is always more compelling than those that just follow an existing template exactly; at the very least they’ll always be a more interesting experience.
Since the focus is on novel ways of storytelling examples are predominantly from ‘new media’ -interactive stories and games.
But there are also examples from film, & more traditional written word. All is subjective, feel free to comment your thoughts- spoiler-free unless indicated!
