Slender

There’s something in the woods…

I’ve written before about how important fear of the unknown & the unexpected is in horror. It’s something games often struggled with- after the first monster encounter in a game you would know what to expect. Part of the problem is they’re all too solid- rather than a mystery, they can be seen right there (in the game’s physical world anyway), their actions & their behavior all too clear.  You know what you’re up against.

“Slender” (subtitled “the eight pages”) came out 5 years ago now, and started changing that. By treating the main antagonist…  differently.
Dropped into dark claustrophobic woods, with all the backstory that you require provided by one soundeffect at the beginning, you are left just to explore on your own, collecting pieces of paper that you come across.  But not for long.

Slender is a short game, that is downloadable free for PC or Mac from  www.moddb.com/games/slender-the-eight-pages/downloads
